A mid 19th-century mahogany showwood-framed prie dieu ('pray God') bedroom chair.
Part-button upholstered in old gold-coloured dralon, with wonderful bobbin-turned legs and back supports.
I can't resist bobbins, don't ask me why.
Originally for kneeling on to pray, it makes a great decorative item for draping clothes on, in a bathroom or hallway, perch on it when putting on wellies, or a cosy spot for the cat. Or for kneeling on of course. It's very comfy too.
The back legs have ball and cup castors and although they're very old, I'm assuming they're not original. The front legs don't have castors.
There are historic repairs to the back of the right-hand back support with a couple of screws that I couldn't remove in order to do a better job on - see photos.
Plenty of bumps, scratches and dings.
A nice decorative item nonetheless. And cheap.
