A very attractive, very large William IV or early Victorian mahogany (and pine) open bookcase, with 4 shelves over 2 drawers, framed by Tuscan columns with simple capitals and bases.
I imagine this was in a country house library, or similar, at some point in its life, it certainly has the look. It would also work really well in a kitchen for pots and pans, storage, recipe books, etc.
In a well-loved, slightly battered cosmetic condition due to use - plenty of veneer losses to edges of shelves and bases, scratches and wear to surfaces of shelves, some losses to the beading round the top, old marks and 4 filled screw/dowel holes to the top where a top was fixed - all shown in the photos.
However, it's solid, the shelving and drawers all work well, it has a good colour and patina, the original back is intact, the sides and top aren't split and it looks like the drawer pulls are original.
So, despite the cosmetic wear and tear, this superb piece still has a wonderful look.
