A super Globe Wernicke stacking bookcase, including 5 shelves, a drawer and top, circa 1905. According to the auction I bought it from, it belonged to Dr. Peter Aubrey Sabine (1924-1922), a leading geologist - you can read a detailed obituary here.

4 of the shelves have glazed fronts, the bottom one has a wooden front with an extra removable shelf inside.

Each section graduates from small to large from the top, with a 'waterfall' side profile and brass bound - see photos.

In very good condition with original labels in each section, original handles to the up-and-over doors and original drawer pulls. There are no repairs or damage, the shelf doors are all intact and work well, There's a small bit of 'graffiti' to the inside back of the top section which reads 'Metal arms stamped Patented Jan 31 1905' - referring to the stamp on the metal arm mechanism of the doors. There are a couple of felt floor protectors stuck underneath the bottom which I've left on, but can easily be removed.

Total height: 193cm
Width: 86.5cm
Depth of bottom section: 38cm
